Politics -- “Do We Care”
Sitting on a chair in my room makes me think about our political scenario in this 21st century and where we stand considering politics can do everything whether it is getting rich (the money involved amounts to something a middle class person like me can never earn in his dreams also) or creating a new i.e. 29th state in our democratic country. We are among those who live mostly on illusions. We perceive things and we consider them as true forever. The funniest thing being we are not acceptable for changes.
Gandhi scion Rahul Gandhi recently made a statement that we will soon have a Muslim PM in our country and he will make that possible. Does that sound true? Not to me at least. We care for Mr. Gandhi and his statements and not on what he does. I am not against him but still some of his activities have really made a negative effect on me at least. Consider these, he visits some dalits in one of his opposition ruled state and later takes a dip into holy Ganges to make sure he is not among the untouchables. He can break his security code anytime he wants. And despite being a pilot he will land his chopper anywhere he wishes. What kind of examples is he giving to so called younger generation or his followers?? But we still favor him because he is young, smart and handsome and has some celebrity status attached. The main reason why BJP lost this assembly election was that none of their candidates could influence us. We (age group 18-30) are still the major power to win an election the count being more than 80 crores.
We obey what is said by someone we like, someone we are a fan off. They can mould us and our thoughts in any way they want to. What power do we have being in this age group? Can we get justice for someone deprived or can we stop our politicians from making money? The answer is NO. We only have this voting power with us with which we can choose our leaders but still we choose someone they want us to choose. Strong campaigns plus celebrities introduced in the road show and the final result is we are running after them. The best advertisement on television these days was of Tata tea, one liner being “Utho Mat Jaago “. They wanted to use our brains instead of catchy statements and our superstars. But still we are on the point we started from.
The easiest source of earning has become politics, you win an election to become MP and your coming generation will have the sweet fruit of your earning. It has become a royal game in which the person having money and source can only participate. We have student councils, university elections but they bear no fruit. They go and fight these elections only for power and fame. Our main problem is that we keep on blaming some one or the other. He didn’t do this and he didn’t do that. But here the thing should be if you are capable enough to criticize someone than you should also be able to solve the problem if put in the same scenario. We have become a bunch of criticizers. We give no output rather than just putting burden to this already existing population explosion.
It’s high time we used our brains in choosing our leaders. We can spare some time from activities we are fond of. Until and unless we take the responsibility who else is going to solve our problems? Where do we go if the same situation carries on? We are heading in the direction someone else wants us to because it’s going to benefit them in every way. Hope we get out of this illusion soon!
